Triple P (Positive Parenting Program)

image of mother with baby Our Futures in Licking County has identified the Triple P Positive Parenting Program as an evidenced-based program that will help to strengthen our community. In a recent major study in South Carolina, Triple P was shown to reduce the risk factors of child abuse and family violence (Prinz, et.al. 2009) through its positive parenting strategies.

In 2009, a local coalition from Our Futures began to meet with researchers and other individuals to learn more about the program. The program involves training groups of education and mental health professionals, who then provide Triple P services to parents.

Once trained, Triple P providers organize Triple P Seminars and group discussions, as well as offer individual consultations. The program focuses on common, everyday parenting issues that most parents run into at some time when raising their children. Examples of some of these issues include: tantrums, balancing work and family, chores, and homework. Triple P targets parents with children from birth to age 12. Through the program, parents are given researched based information and strategies to try at home with their children.

As we build the Triple P program though out our community, we hope to help parents become more confident and less frustrated. Triple P offers something for all parents ---and it shows us that small changes can make a big difference in the lives of children and parents!
