Pride Survey

image of earthflowerThe PRIDE Survey is a national survey of youth in schools. It is widely utilized to measure substance use, abuse, attitudes toward substance use and the overall climate in schools and communities.

In May of 2009, in cooperation with local school districts, Our Futures in Licking County administered the Pride Survey to students in grades 6, 8, 10, and 12. Seven out of ten public school districts in the county participated with 5,097 students completing the survey (85% response rate). All school systems that participated agreed to allow the test to be administered annually in the future. The full report can be viewed at: http://www.communitymhrb.org/links.cfm.

The PRIDE Survey is being administered again in the Spring of 2010. By comparing multiple years of the survey results we can identify target areas, reviewtrends and measure successes.

The results of the 2009 survey indicated that:

Children’s use of alcohol, tobacco and marijuana and its availability, parental acceptance of substance use and lack of monitoring of youth have been identified as primary areas of focus by Licking County and specifically by the Our Futures in Licking County drug free coalition. Alcohol, marijuana and tobacco usage are the primary drugs of focus. Working with Dr. Dennis Embry of the Paxis Institute, Our Futures has developed and is implementing a research driven strategic plan to address these areas of concern.
